Ritual Chant

Preparation
A brief note: while our intention is to be inconspicuous, and to quietly carry out our work, we will be operating in public. The guidelines below are provided out of an abundance of caution.

Protesters’ Rights & Health The ACLU publishes a wonderful guide that we recommend reading and being familiar with: https://www.aclu.org/know-your-rights/protesters-rights/

Also, Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) publish a great guide about how to protect yourself in the event that tear-gas is deployed: https://phr.org/our-work/resources/preparing-for-protecting-against-and-treating-tear-gas-and-other-chemical-irritant-exposure-a-protesters-guide/

Familiarity with Ritual This ritual outline is provided for participants to familiarize themselves with what to expect. Ritual leaders will guide participants through each step. Please do not feel you need to memorize or do extensive prep work in order to participate.

Circle Casting Sky anchor leads Participants to walk around the fountain, chanting We Are A Circle.

Invocation of the Land, Sea, and Sky Call and response; participants respond in purple.

Land Anchor: We honor the Land and ask the Land not shake apart and swallow us. We honor the land We reach into the rich black dirt Made lush with decay We honor the land Through roots and mycelia Holding stones and bones of eons We honor the land Bring us your sturdy foundation The wisdom of history We honor the land And the alchemy of changing Decay into abundant growth We honor the land

Waters Anchor:

We honor the waters, and ask the waters not rise up and drown us

We honor the waters

From the rain to great flowing rivers

And the salty depths of the sea

We honor the waters

Home to strange ancient creatures

And keeper of great mystery

We honor the waters

Bring us your keen memory

Your skill to seep into all places

We honor the waters

Pervasive and Persistent

And necessary for life

We honor the waters

Sky Anchor:
We honor the Sky, and ask the Sky, not spin down upon us

We honor the sky

Oh great invisible expanse

Of rolling clouds and endless stars

We honor the sky

Warming sun and changing moon

Where dreams and aspirations take flight

We honor the sky

Bring us the breath of great change

To carry the voice of justice across the world

We honor the sky

By gentle breeze or sharp cold wind

For all living things to breathe.

We honor the sky

Invocation of Deities Sky Anchor leads Participants to silently call in the deities with whom they work to bless the rite.

Body Land Anchor:

We recognize and honor the waterways and fountains of Kansas City, powerful keepers of our community, strong guardians of our collective vision for social justice and needed change. Sparkling waters and fountains of this city’s hope, we ask for your aid tonight. Bless this work, allowing the currents of community and mutual aid to flow across the land.

As we raise energy for mutual aid, we seek dignity, respect, friendship, and kinship for all people who call this place home. In raising the bonds of community, we seek to empower those who bring together, and take that power away from those who would separate, incarcerate, or dominate.

Land Anchor directs Participants to reflect on the unique energy that they want to bring into the community for social justice initiatives.

Land Anchor informs Participants that we will chant together to empower our waters and then pour our waters and our magical intent into the city’s waterways.

Community Chant:

We gather now in unity

We seek social justice

Reclaiming our Community

We seek justice now.

Honor to land, sea, and sky

We seek social justice

As these waters purify

We seek justice now.

**See more information about chant above

Waters Anchor begins and leads the Community Chant as we empower the waters together.

Waters Anchor holds the chant and pours their own empowered water into the fountain. After the other anchors have poured their water, Participants pour their empowered water into the fountain.

Chant continues until the last water is poured into the fountain.

Land Anchor draws the Sigil on the fountain using an anointing oil to seal the magical intention.

Land Anchor then directs Participants to draw the newly made Waters of Social Justice up from the fountain.

Sky Anchor directs Participants to tone together (humming, droning, etc.) while everyone takes blessed water. Toning continues until everyone has gathered water.

Land Anchor:

The waters you carry have been charged by this community. We are charged as members of this community and the broader city and larger structures we belong to, to carry the energy of seeking justice into all spaces we occupy. Take some of this charged water and sprinkle yourself, letting the charge of justice wash away fear and doubt toward the work that lies ahead.

Waters Anchor

Having charged yourself - take forth these waters, and wherever you may safely do so spread some of this water about.. Taking the energies of community and justice into ever more spaces. As much as you are able, remain unobserved.

Sky Anchor

Dare to do. Dare to keep silent. Let justice come!

Let justice come!

Closing

Dismissal of Deities Sky Anchor leads Participants to thank deities for presence, pour a small libation from their blessed water Dismissal of Land, Sea, and Sky Participants repeat.

Sky Anchor

Thanks be to the wind and the sky!

Thanks be to the wind and the sky!

Waters Anchor

Thanks be to the waters and the seas!

Thanks be to the waters and the seas!

Land Anchor

Thanks be to the land and the soil!
